The Office for Product Safety and Standards is advising customers to cease use immediately and ensure the items are kept away from children while offering a full refund at all Primark stores.

Two Primark Halloween decorations have been urgently recalled over fears they have been contaminated with asbestos.

The doorstep products, which are in the shape of a pumpkin hat and a witch with grey hair, may have been contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos.

It is thought to be in the sand inside of the products.

Customers have been told to place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-tape it, and label it before storing it out of reach of children.

If the product has been damaged and the filling is accessible, customers have been told t wear gloves and a mask to clean the site with wet cloths.

It can be returned to the nearest Primark store for a full refund.

The affected batches have the model numbers 991174794 and 991179148 and the barcodes 212047125 and 212080261.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards said: ‘The products present a risk to health as the sand sealed inside the gonks may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos.

‘Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.

‘We recommend owners stop using the product immediately and keep out of the reach of children.’
