The most affordable European city break destinations for two have been revealed. 

Looking for a romantic escape that won’t break the bank? Look no further than Podgorica, the capital city of Montenegro, which has been named the cheapest European destination for a two-day break for two people, with an average cost of just £222. 

This includes return flights for two, two nights of accommodation, a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant, and some sightseeing activities.

The data has been compiled by Jersey Island Holidays, who gathered information from multiple travel websites to determine the average cost of trips across Europe.

On average, return flights to Podgorica cost £89, and a three-course meal for two comes in at just £22. Taxis for the two-day trip are also affordable, averaging around £5.

Skopje in North Macedonia came in a close second, with an average cost of £274 for a two-day break, including a slightly cheaper three-course meal at £21, but pricier alcohol at £13. 

Debrecen and Szeged in Hungary are also budget-friendly destinations, with the cost of the trip just over £300.

If cheap flights are your priority, then Warsaw, Poland is the fifth cheapest city, with return flights averaging just £92.

However, if you’re looking to splurge on a romantic getaway, Zug in Switzerland takes the top spot for the most expensive European destination, with an average cost of £1,022. This includes accommodation, flights, and a three-course meal for two at a cost of £315, £261, and £107 respectively.

Zurich, Switzerland comes in second at an average cost of £1,003, while Nice in France and Luxembourg cost £694 and £595 respectively for a two-day break.
