A 65-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 93-year-old woman in Cornwall, police have said.
Officers were called to Cherrill Gardens in Bude on Sunday afternoon.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her family has been informed.
The arrested man is from the local area and remains in custody, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
“It is believed the man and woman were known to each other,” said Detective Inspector Rob Smith.
The local community should be “reassured” the death was being treated as an “isolated incident”, Mr Smith added.
Officers are not seeking anyone else “at this time”, he said.
A cordon has been set up.
“There will be a heightened police presence in the area over the coming days as inquiries are ongoing,” Mr Smith commented.
“I would encourage anyone, if you have any concerns, to contact officers from the local neighbourhood policing team.”
