We’ve been waiting for England to make us believe, today the Three Lions nationalised belief. Before today’s game they had probably only had that one good half against Croatia. There were moments and pieces of brilliance from Kane and Bellingham, but the performance tonight was pretty much perfect.
There was so much talk of everything that they had to face tonight, the altitude and so on, and they have dealt with that. They have dealt with other knock backs too. This was a standout performance, a performance that can carry them forward and give them belief that they can go on and do something in this competition.
“The atmosphere was by far the best I have played against in international football. This country as a footballing country is magnificent. The reception we had coming off the plane, although it was hostile, it was beautiful to see how passionate one country can be about their team.
“The refereeing decisions, it is what it is. It’s the World Cup and they are human too. As easy as it is to say now, they are human, we made a lot more than they did, but no worries we got through.”
