Flames erupted from the engine of a Latam Airlines passenger jet preparing for take-off in Lima, Peru, on Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of all on board. No injuries were reported, and emergency crews responded to the situation.

The airline reported that emergency crews responded promptly, and all passengers were successfully evacuated without injury. The precise cause of the engine fire remains under investigation as the airline continues to assist affected passengers with rebooking.

Latam Airlines confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated following an “unexpected technical event” with the Airbus A320’s engine, emphasising that safety remained their top priority. The airline is currently providing assistance to affected passengers, including rebooking on the next available flights.

What remains unclear — The exact cause of the fire in the aircraft’s engine has not been revealed.

Passengers on board the Latam Airlines flight from Lima to Piura were evacuated after the incident today, which saw the engine turn into a flamethrower.

Elsewhere, an Austrian Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Austria declared a mid-air emergency after a suspected bomb threat.

The flight OS82 was over Romania when the incident was declared, forcing it to divert to Sofia, Bulgaria.

The incident comes weeks after a Flydubai pilot attempted to hijack a plane after attacking his co-pilot last month.

Captain Smit ‌Machchhar was hailed a hero after foiling the attack despite being seriously injured in the hit.

Machchhar managed to reach for the doorknob and allow passengers to rush into the cockpit to subdue co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami, who allegedly attempted to hijack and crash the jet.
